Providing Adequate
Coverage
Building fire stations is a complex
process that involves a systematic analysis of the city's
risk. Under former Chief Ken Riley, the Rogers Fire
Department identified the locations for current Station 3,
4, 5, 6, and 7. These stations were built or relocated
in the 1990's and early 2000's to provide equitable four
minute response times across the city.
Providing first-in fire and emergency medical coverage
requires much more then geographically distributed fire
stations. The Rogers Fire Department evaluates the
following criteria when analyzing locations for future fire
station placement:
1. Day and Night Population
2. Location of target hazards (schools, assisted
living facilities, etc)
3. Location of sensitive sites (EPA Tier II
facilities, high rise buildings, etc)
4. Current first-in response times to the area
5. Current second-in response times to the area
To future assist with risk analysis, each quarter square
mile of the city is analyzed to determine the predominate
risk in each geographical area of the city. This helps
to determine whether the RFD can provide adequate personnel
for a given risk. Risk is based on the type of
occupancy that dominates a given area of the city. The
RFD categorizes the risk as residential, commercial, low
rise apartments, and high risk (high rise, or EPA Tier II).
MUTUAL AID FIRE/RESCUE COVERAGE:
RFD provides mutual aid to: Bentonville FD, Little Flock FD,
Hwy 94 E FD, Beaver Lake FD, Avoca FD, and Cave Springs FD.
RFD can also receive mutual aid from any of these
departments.
EMS/AMBULANCE COVERAGE:
RFD currently houses an
ambulance at stations: 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7. The first
priority of RFD is to respond to the EMS needs of the City
of Rogers. In addition to this RFD is also the only
ambulance available for some of eastern Benton County which includes
Little Flock, Prairie Creek, Monte Ne, Cave Springs, War
Eagle, Lowell, and the surrounding
areas. In addition to
these area's RFD provides mutual aid to the
BLS service of Pea
Ridge. RFD responds to these areas only if resources are
available and the City Wide Tour Commander approves such a
response.
