Donation of the Month

Painting, Winter in the Country, 1955
Artist: Charles Summey
Donor: Susan Thrasher in memory of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Thrasher
2011.8.1

Northwest Arkansas has a long history of creative and artistic individuals. Creating everything from art to poetry; and Charles Summey is one of the more recognizable artists. Raised in Rogers, Summey attended Rogers High School where his art teacher inspired and encouraged him. Purchased to help fund his art schooling, this painting shows the young talent of Charles Summey, who has gone on to be a well recognized western and landscape artist.

Today, Summey’s paintings are featured in many Galleries and Private Collections; and shown in art shows across the nation. In addition to this painting, the museum has two on permanent display in the lobby and front office depicting the no longer standing Frisco Railroad depot in Rogers.
