The Fabulous 1960s in Rogers, Arkansas by James Hales is now available at the Museum or by mail.
This book has three goals: to provide a background of life in Rogers before the change in the late 1950s; to share a snapshot and a step back into life in Rogers during the 1960s; and to tell the story of the evolution of Rogers into the current city that it is today in 2008. This exciting story of Rogers in the 1960s is not a dry history book, but the story of real people, places and events told with over 1000 photographs and stories featuring the unforgettable businesses, outstanding citizens, leaders of city government, industry, organizations, religions, and entertainment. There are pictures of memorable students and faculty from every graduating class of Rogers High School from 1960, when the last class attended the old RHS building on Walnut Street, and concluding at the end of the decade with the class of 1969. There is also a special section on the War Eagle area and the lost town of Monte Ne.

The cost of the book is $25.00. You may purchase by mail by sending a check payable to the Friends of the RHM (sorry, no credit card sales) for the cost of the book plus $5 for shipping and handling to 322 South Second Street, Rogers AR 72756-4546. Gary Townzen's Rogers Historical Calendar 2009 is now available! Since 1986, the calendar program has raised enough money to buy approximately $200,000 worth of food for Feed the Children. In recent years, those truckloads of food have been coming back to Rogers to feed our local people in need. The year 2009 will be the tenth anniversary of the Feed the Children calendars, and Gary celebrated by producing this special Then and Now collectors' edition of the calendar. Each month features an historic picture of Rogers in contrast with a current photo of each site.

The cost of the calendar is $5.00. You may purchase by mail by sending a check payable to the Friends of the RHM (sorry, no credit card sales) for the cost of the calendar plus $5 for shipping and handling to 322 South Second Street, Rogers AR 72756-4546. The new documentary Sunken Dreams: William 'Coin' Harvey and Monte Ne, Arkansas is now available. The film explores the story of William “Coin” Harvey and the resort town of Monte Ne, Arkansas. The 30-minute film was produced by Nathan Crowder, a graduate student in broadcast journalism at the University of Arkansas. When Beaver Lake was created in the 1960s, it enveloped most of Monte Ne. But the story of Harvey and Monte Ne continues to interest area residents and tourists alike. Crowder’s documentary is a fascinating retrospective on Harvey and his resort. This film features the original music commissioned by Harvey as well as original photographs, the majority of which are from the collections of the Rogers Historical Museum and the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History. This film also features interviews of relevant experts about the life and times of “Coin” Harvey.

The DVD is available for $10. You may purchase by mail by sending a check payable to the Friends of the RHM (sorry, no credit card sales) for the cost of the book plus $5 for shipping and handling to 322 South Second Street, Rogers AR 72756-4546.
