| HOCUS,
FOCUS One very common technique with photographic postcards is the insertion or deletion of subjects from different versions of the same scene. In these two, one entitled “Fisherman’s Camp on White River Near Monte Ne, Ark.” and the other “Fisherman’s Camp, White River”, the man in front of the tent sits stoically in his rocking chair, legs crossed and pipe in mouth. In the foreground of the card on the left, a young boy in a sombrero holds up a fish. This would seem to be the original image. In the card on the right, the boy is missing, but much of his outline, including the sombrero, can be seen as a filled in area of the rock bluff. Other than that, both images are the same. |
