Volunteer

The Museum was founded by volunteers and continues to operate with the assistance of our valuable volunteers. We welcome the volunteer services of any and all in the community for as few or as many hours as you’d like to donate, on a regular or occasional basis. To volunteer, or for more information, call the Museum at 621-1154.

Volunteer opportunities:

Hawkins House docents provide visitors with educational tours which enhance their understanding of everyday life at the turn of the 20th century. Experience with children is helpful., and a minimum of three hours per month is necessary. Shifts run 10am to 1pm and 1-4 pm.

Gardeners are responsible for grooming flower beds by weeding, dead-heading, dividing perennials, and planting and caring for annuals. Flexible scheduling, 2-4 hours weekly depending upon season.

Researchers assist staff with studying research topics for exhibits, educational programming, and publications. Flexible scheduling, hours vary by need.

Research librarians review, update, and index research files. Flexible scheduling, 1-3 hours weekly.

Collections assistants assist in documenting the permanent collection, cleaning or storing artifacts, researching collections, and helping with data entry. Specialized training provided by project. Flexible scheduling, 1-3 hours weekly.

Education volunteers assist in promoting the educational mission through support of in-house and outreach programs.  Opportunities include presenting programs or entertaining at special events, presenting craft classes, helping with arts & crafts, sewing costumes, indexing, and research.  Scheduling varies by position.

Oral historians collect information and observations from interviews. Specialized training provided for research, interviews, and transcriptions. Flexible scheduling.

Public relations assistants assist with the dispersal of publicity materials. Transportation, insurance, and a driver’s license necessary. Flexible scheduling.
